Циљ предмета
This course aims to provide a basic introduction to Earth’s natural resources with a particular emphasis on non-renewable resources as well as the environmental impact of resource exploitation and usage. Students will learn the fundamentals of common minerals and rock types and are invited to think about the challenges and opportunities facing the mineral extraction. The topics covered in this course explore the range of geological natural resources which modern society depends on. In this course you will develop an awareness for the importance of the mineral resources in our lives as very little of modern life is possible without ready access to a wide range of Earth’s natural resources.

At the conclusion of this course, students should be able to:
1. Identify common rock types (igneous rocks, sedimentary rocks, metamorphic rocks) and important petrogenic and ore minerals;
2. Classify non-renewable resources and discuss their mode of origin;
3. Compare the differences between mineral resources, reserves, and ores and their importance to society;
4. Explain the application of mineral resources;
5. Discuss global production and uses of metals, fossil fuels, and other non-renewable resources;
6. Evaluate non-renewable resources consumption for a sustainable future;
7. Demonstrate ability to understand important issues affecting exploitation of Earth’s natural resources and how environmental problems can be minimized and, if possible, avoided.
