Summer School “Contemporary Challenges in Housing: Affordability, Commodification, Segregation”
The Summer School “Contemporary Challenges in Housing: Affordability, Commodification, Segregation” explores pressing urban housing issues, with a particular focus on Belgrade, while also addressing broader perspectives in urban studies.
By examining the intersections of social housing, affordability, commodification, resident participation in housing processes, and both micro- and city-wide segregation—including horizontal and vertical residential segregation—the program aims to contribute to broader discussions on urban housing development.
The Summer School is structured around several core thematic areas, including social housing, housing affordability, resident participation in housing processes, and residential segregation. Through lectures, fieldwork, and discussions, participants will critically analyze how different policies shape local housing conditions and explore potential solutions to urban inequality.
Additionally, the program addresses the challenges of housing commodification, gentrification, and the transformation of urban spaces—key issues in contemporary debates on European cities.
